Committed to environmentally conscious and sustainable business practices, installing solar power was a natural choice for Hess Collection Winery. SolarCraft designed, engineered and installed the 649 kW solar photovoltaic system at its Napa, CA production facility.

Providing nearly 100% of the electrical needs for their operations, the solar power system will reduce their carbon footprint while saving millions in utility costs in the years to come.

As with all solar power systems, the clean, renewable energy from the solar panels will help lessen the load on the grid and offset the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

The solar photovoltaic system is roof-mounted, spanning 44,555 square feet. The system consists of 2,200 Hanwha Solar 295-watt solar panels, powering their offices and production facilities with clean, renewable energy.

The system’s solar electric panels are expected to generate approximately 945,450 kilowatt hours of energy annually, providing 100% of the winery’s annual energy consumption. The new solar energy system enables Hess to generate enough electricity each day to power 148 average homes. It will spare the air nearly 272 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually. Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to eliminating almost 16 million miles of driving.

The solar electric system is ground mounted on a hillside above the golf course. It consists of 870 high-efficiency solar panels spanning a total of 17,610 square feet. Excess power generated during the day is banked by PG&E for credit towards future use.

The new solar power system allows Napa Valley Country Club to generate enough electricity each day to power over 57 average homes. Napa Valley Country Club is the only entirely private country club in Napa County. Nestled in the hills of the Coombsville area of Napa Valley this 6,148-yard, par 72-layout rolls through the countryside in grand fashion. The original front nine fairways were cut out of tall grass with wild oats as rough in 1917 by a group of Napa Valley businessmen. The back nine was completed in 1990, designed by Ronald Fream. Non-profit Solar Electric Installation Project Profile

 An innovative residential community in Sonoma, CA geared specifically for adults with autism, Sweetwater Spectrum was developed with environmental stewardship in mind. To help facilitate and promote energy efficiency, a 51 kW solarSonoma solar power Sweetwater Spectrum electric and solar pool heating system was installed by SolarCraft to provide the community with clean, sustainable energy.

 SolarCraft offers unique financing options for non-profits, to eliminate high upfront costs. The finance payments are typically less than paying PG&E, so the projects save money immediately.

The solar electric system is roof-mounted on four residential buildings and the community center. It consists of high-efficiency solar panels spanning a total of 3,600 square feet. A separate solar heating system greatly reduces the cost of heating the pool.

Designed to LEED Gold standards, in addition to solar power the homes and community structures at Sweetwater Spectrum were constructed using durable, low-VOC building materials and finishes, solar water heating and radiant cooling/heating systems. In fact, the community is a pilot project for the PG&E Net Zero Energy Pilot Program.

The system’s solar electric panels are expected to generate approximately 73,000 kilowatt hours of energy annually. The new solar energy system allows Sweetwater Spectrum to generate enough electricity each day to power over 12 average homes. It will spare the air nearly 20 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually. Winery Solar Electric Installation Project Profile

winery solar energySolarCraft both designed and built this 277 kW solar electric system for Merryvale’s new Starmont production facility at Stanly Ranch in Napa, CA, providing an estimated 90–100% of the winery’s annual electricity needs.

The winery’s building is roughly 64,000 square feet and now supports over (1,632) 170 watt Sharp solar panels. The 22,205 square feet of high capacity solar panels will generate roughly 277 kilowatts peak power. The system will generate enough electricity to virtually eliminate expensive peak-period usage, while also selling excess power back to the local utility company for credit. The credits are sold to the utility company at peak rates and the customer uses them back during nights and winter.

SolarCraft assisted Merryvale with the applications for the solar energy rebate program with the Public Utilities Commission. In 2006 the PUC approved the project and the system was installed.

The new system will enable Merryvale Vineyards to generate enough clean electricity each day to power 117 average homes. The new system will spare the air nearly 207 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually, comparable to planting over 42 acres of trees. Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to driving over 14 million miles.

The Hartle Court Permanent Supportive Housing facility in Napa, CA was designed with energy efficiency in mind. As part of that plan, SolarCraft both designed and installed a 23 kW solar electric system. The recently completed housing facility is now powered by clean solar energy, providing significant savings to the facility.

The Hartle Court Facility, developed by the Gasser Foundation and operated by The Progress Foundation, is targeting LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver. This would be the Napa Valley’s first LEED Certified Multi-Family Residential Development.

The project consists of 98 Sharp 235-watt solar panels spanning 1,719 square feet of roof tops on multiple buildings. The system is expected to generate approximately 31,540 kilowatt hours of energy annually, providing sustainable and price stable energy to the facility for years to come.

Each of the 98 solar modules is controlled by a micro-inverter, manufactured by Enphase Energy of Petaluma, CA. Unlike more conventional solar electric systems, the micro-inverters greatly reduce impacts of shade from nearby trees or structures, and generate about 7% more power than conventional inverters. Overall system efficiency is increased by 10–12%. In addition to resolving shade issues, the Enphase inverters allowed for the flexibility of solar panel awnings over several windows on the facility.

The new solar energy system allows the Hartle Court Facility to generate enough electricity each day to power over 11 average homes. It will spare the air nearly 17 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually. Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to eliminating over 1 million miles of driving.

The monitoring display for the system is located in the front office and is available for public viewing.

The system will enable Medtronic to generate enough electricity each day to power more than 186 average homes. It will spare the air nearly 250 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually. Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to eliminating more than 16 million miles of driving or planting 50 acres of air-filtering trees.

The system consists of 93 SunTech 280 watt solar panels that convert sunlight directly into electricity and will generate approximately 36,000 kilowatt hours of energy annually. The roof mounted system spans 1,944 square feet and also helps to shade and protect the roof.

The new system will reduce the school’s utility costs by thousands every year, freeing funds for educating students. Excess power generated during the day is sent back to PG&E for credit towards future use.

Solar power generated from the system will produce enough clean energy each day to power 11 average homes. Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to eliminating over 1.6 million miles of driving and spare the air nearly 690 tons of carbon emissions.

Santa Rosa utilites solarDesigned and installed by SolarCraft, this solar energy system allows Santa Rosa Utilities to capture the sun to power their operations. The 40,000 square-foot complex in Santa Rosa, CA is now powered by clean solar power.

The 103 kW solar electric system at the Utilities Department facility consists of two separate systems. The first system is mounted on the flat surface area of the roof, consisting of 334 SunPower-230 watt solar panels. SolarCraft engineered and installed the non-penetrating roof mount system, utilizing SunPower T10 solar roof tiles that span over 4,608 square feet. The solar roof tiles insulate and protect the roof, while the tilt and reflectors allow for maximum energy output.

The second system is mounted on the four sloping “saw tooth” standing-seam roofs at the north end of the building, utilizing 120 SunTech 200 watt panels, covering over 1,800 square feet.

Approximately 119,000 kilowatt hours of energy will be generated annually, providing most of the facility’s energy consumption. The added insulation saves energy by reducing the building’s heating and cooling demands. The buildings have incorporated other energy-efficient features: solar tubes, natural lighting, high-efficiency heating and cooling units, and water recycling systems. The city received nearly $300,000 in rebates for its energy upgrades.

The new solar system will enable Santa Rosa Utilities to generate enough clean electricity each day to power over 52 homes. It will spare the air nearly 91 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually. Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to eliminating over 6.3 million miles of driving.

Ross School chose SolarCraft to design and install their 111.7 kilowatt solar electric system, which will provide enormous savings to their facility. Phase One of the system was installed on the main building during the school’s massive renovation. It consists of 312 American-made Sharp 240 watt solar modules. The solar panels are mounted on the steel, corrugated roof using an engineered non-penetrating mounting system that is low-profile and attractive on the new buildings. The panels span over 8,174 square feet and help insulate and protect the roof.
The new system will reduce the school’s utility costs by thousands every year, while reducing the load on the local utility grid. Excess power generated during the day is banked by PG&E for credit towards future use.

Each panel is controlled by an individual micro-inverter manufactured by Enphase Energy of Petaluma, CA. Micro-inverters greatly increase the overall system efficiency.

The system’s photovoltaic panels generate approximately 119,791 kilowatt hours of energy annually, providing over 80% of Wine Country Shipping and Wine Country Cellar’s electric needs with clean, renewable energy. SolarCraft’s winning design is unique. Each of the 279 solar modules is controlled by individual micro-inverters manufactured by Enphase Energy of Petaluma, CA. The micro-inverters were the solution to a shading issue caused by a telecommunications tower on the south side of the building. Unlike more conventional solar electric systems, the micro-inverters will allow the rest of the solar modules to produce at full capacity no matter how many panels may be shaded, and greatly increase the overall system efficiency.

SolarCraft also installed an Enphase Enlighten monitoring system, providing unprecedented visibility into the performance of each module. Winery Solar Electric Installation Project Profile

Sterling’s famed aerial tram is now powered by the sun. The aerial tram at Sterling is the only one of its kind in Napa Valley, offering stunning views as visitors ride up to the winery, perched 300 feet above the town of Calistoga.

The 72 kW solar electric system at Sterling is comprised of two separate solar energy systems. One system will power Sterling’s aerial tram. This system is 55.5 kW, consisting of (264) SunPower PowerGuard 210 watt insulated solar roof tiles installed on the roof of the Reserve Winery located at the bottom of the hill. SunPower PowerGuard solar roof tiles provide reliable, clean electricity while insulating and protecting the roof. The added insulation saves up to 30% more energy by reducing the building’s heating and cooling load.

The second system is ground mounted and will provide power to the winery’s water treatment facility. It will generate 16.5 kW of power and consists of (72) SunPower high efficiency 230 watt panels.

The new system will enable Sterling Vineyards to generate enough clean electricity each day to power 36 average homes. The new system will spare the air nearly 64 tons of harmful greenhouse gases annually. Over the next 30 years, the air pollution saved will be equivalent to driving over 4.3 million miles. The system will pay for itself in 5-6 years.

The company’s building is 78,000 square feet and now supports (208) 170 watt Mitsubishi solar panels. The 3,000 square feet of high capacity solar panels will generate roughly 35 kW peak power. By utilizing existing roof space to generate electricity on site, North Bay is helping to reduce peak electricity demands for others, while exhibiting sustainable business practices. The system will generate enough electricity to virtually eliminate peak-period usage, while also selling excess power back to the local utility company for credit. The credits are sold to the utility company at peak rates and the customer uses them back during the night.
