SolarCraft is seeking a Manager/Director of Human Resources, to join our team.  The primary role of this senior leadership position will be to oversee all aspects of human resources management at SolarCraft, including recruitment, retention, legal compliance, performance evaluation and employee benefits – for all departments and divisions.  This key member of the senior management team will help develop and lead SolarCraft’s human resource digitalization and cost reduction efforts.  Exact title will be dependent on experience.

The Manager/Director of Human Resources will have a successful track record as a key member of a small to medium sized entity’s management team with a solid technical understanding of digital human resource tools and excellence in recruitment, retention and intentional culture change.

Qualifications / Responsibilities:

  • oversee and manage human resources.
  • implement and drive all human resources programs
  • develop, recommend, and implement all human resources policies and procedures for all employees
  • participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems including updating the Employee Handbook
  • continue the establishment of SolarCraft University portal for online training of all HR, safety and skill set requirements ensuring our intentional culture is communicated and adopted
  • establishment of an online HR portal for employees enabling easy access to HR issues including but not limited to payroll, benefits, development plan etc.
  • establishment, rollout, training and administration of Catalytic Coaching in lieu of annual reviews, for all employees to participate in consisting of employee input (yellow sheet), coaching worksheet (blue sheet) and development plan (green sheet); annually realize the benefits of Catalytic Coaching to:
    • save managers valuable time with an employee-driven process
    • ditch rear-view performance management in favor of future-focused growth
    • empower and motivate employees to craft and command their own careers
    • prevent and protect against damaging lawsuits
  • responsible for the management of all employee relations issues, to include counseling, conflict resolution, performance improvement plans and progressive discipline
  • own compensation guidelines and overall company/departments compensation and incentive budgets ensuring SolarCraft earns and maintains the status of preferred North Bay clean energy employer

The primary responsibilities of the Solar Electric (PV) Service Technician are:

  • As directed by leadership, to perform on-site service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar electric (PV) projects for businesses. This is a field construction role that requires a positive attitude, hard work ethic, and knowledge and experience with solar electric systems, general construction and electrical systems.

Depending on experience and aptitude you may be appointed as foreman for a crew.

The primary responsibilities of the Certified Electrician are:

  • Work safely at all times, and ensure the safety of yourself, your team, clients, partners and the sites you are on.
  • Perform BESS installations, main AC panel upgrades and other electrical work related to BESS and PV installations.
  • Perform on-site service, troubleshooting, and repair of BESS and solar electric (PV) systems. This is a field construction role that requires a positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and knowledge and experience with energy storage systems, solar electric systems, general construction and electrical systems.
  • Work collaboratively with Foremen/Superintendents, Project Managers and your team to ensure safety, quality, client satisfaction and project schedules and budgets are achieved.

Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • California certified electrician
  • Install, evaluate, and repair BESS and solar PV system components including but not limited to installing electrical service panels, electrical sub-panels, batteries, BESS control components, conduit and wire, electrical switchgear, switches and monitoring systems.

SolarCraft is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Solar PV Foreman / Crew lead to join our team.  The position will be Full-time, based in our Novato, CA Headquarters and working primarily throughout the SF North Bay Area. Foreman are an integral part of our Solar Operations team, and support our Construction Operations, Design/Engineering, and Service departments.  The primary responsibilities of the Foreman/Crew Lead are:

  • to work closely with Project Manager and with field installations crews to manage all the on-site responsibilities of installing solar PV projects for homes and businesses. This is a player-coach role that requires a positive attitude and ‘lead by example’ character.
  • Lead a team of 2 – 5 persons installing solar PV and battery energy storage systems for residential and commercial projects.
  • as directed by Project Manager and Operations Department leaders (COO, Procurement, Design/Engineers), to manage onsite communications with client, sub-contractors, partners, and field crews toward successful installation of solar projects, on time and on budget.
  • work collaboratively with other departments to establish project milestones, ensure safety, quality and company processes are adhered to, help plan and execute project build strategies.

Job Description – Foreman of Residential and/or Commercial PV Solar Field Crew

Position requires the ability to supervise others, communicate with clients, and the ability to work safely and confidently on roofs and ladders (at heights) or on ground mount builds involving excavation work while performing manual skilled labor for the majority of the day.  Requirements include 4-6 years construction experience, with solar PV electrical knowledge and field crew management experience.

Position reports to Project Manager, and as the field team leader and onsite company representative of projects, your primary goals are to 1) ensure that all work is being performed safely, following company safety policies to protect clients, partners and employees and client’s property, 2) Perform work to highest quality standards, 3) to communicate with clients and partners as needed onsite, ensuring that client’s site and family/employees (our job site) are treated respectfully, that client satisfaction is achieved, and 4) maintain project milestones and budgets.

Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Must have 3+ years solar electric experience.
  • Proficiency in constructing electrical systems from top to bottom.
  • 4‐6 years field experience in solar energy industry, or close equivalent.
  • Must be reliable, and demonstrate highly-ethical behavior and good judgment at all times.
  • Must be able to maintain client and company confidentiality
  • Set goals, manage, and supervise Installation teams on projects to meet project build timelines and milestones.
  • Manage, train, and assess/report on all on‐site labor and partners to help build and maintain the best field teams possible for SolarCraft.
  • To assess team and project requirements to be able to assign and prioritize tasks to team members based on ability to best build code compliant and high-quality solar electric systems on business and residences.
  • Read and understand all project drawings and blueprints.
  • Track and record time allocation to specific tasks on projects.

  • Maintain truck stocks and coordinate with Procurement and PMs as needed to allow for timely and efficient installations.
  • The ability to lift 75lb.
  • Expert knowledge and ability to use basic hand tools and use measuring devices.
  • Use power drills, portable band saws, conduit benders, etc.
  • Work on a roof (no fear of heights, but healthy respect for safety concerns is good).
  • Lay out and build solar array support rack with little supervision
  • Install balance of system components including but not limited to installing water-positive roof flashings, pulling wire, installing electrical conduit, installing electrical switches and junction boxes, gluing and installing PVC plumbing.
  • Install solar electric inverters and other electrical devices such as optimizers, battery-storage systems, and network enabled monitoring hardware.
    Baseline ability to perform QA/QC on installations and perform testing and commissioning.
  • Understand electrical theory and methods used in AC and DC wiring systems.
  • Thorough understanding of NEC and CSLB construction requirements and standards.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Strong organizational, problem‐solving skills, especially as they pertain to construction, building codes, safety, and materials and site management.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with customers in a diplomatic, respectful manner.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, extremely organized and skilled at following through to completion of tasks.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work well in a fast-paced work environment both independently and as part of a team.
  • Consistently works in a professional and presentable manner appropriate with role and scope of work, both in the office and when in communications with clients, vendors and partners.
  • Understanding of construction cost models and management of budgeting cash flow preferred.
  • Familiarity with Structured Finance or Solar Finance models is a plus.

The continued success of our Residential Solar team has created an opportunity to join our team.   SolarCraft is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Assistant Project Manager (PM) to join our Residential Projects team.  The position will be full-time, based in our Novato, CA Headquarters, reporting to the Residential Project Manager and play a critical role not only ensuring that our Residential projects are well managed from development to deployment, but also in shaping the direction and processes-improvement of our Residential Operations team.  The primary responsibilities of the Residential Assistant Project Manager are:

  • to professionally manage the relationship with clients from contract to build with clear and consistent communication
  • to expertly manage the design/build of solar and clean energy projects in contract, through design/engineering, procurement, mobilization, installation and commissioning.
  • to work collaboratively with other SolarCraft team members in the development, planning and execution of projects (i.e. field operations teams, sales, design, interconnection, accounting, safety, procurement).

The Residential Solar Assistant Project Manager must have a solid technical understanding of Solar PV (ideally including Battery Energy Storage systems), know how to read, understand and edit electrical and structural plans, know how to build solar systems (including rooftop, ground mounts and carport/canopy systems), understand client relationships with 3rd party financiers and consultants/owners’ reps, and have current knowledge of Building codes and construction standards, such as the National Electrical Code, Geotech, Environmental Impact Reports, AHJ requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and work with various departments and field teams to ensure accurate and timely completion of one or more projects at a time, often at different stages of development and deployment
  • Maintain project cost tracking and manage project schedules and costs
  • Review, approve, and help to create project Scope of Work (SOW) documents for contracts and then execute to SOW to optimize mutual results for SolarCraft and clients
  • Conduct weekly project management meetings and maintain consistent and clear communications with clients
  • Assess project sites in person throughout duration of project; assessing quality of work and team’s performance, implementing QA/QC as needed, reporting on status/progress of projects
  • Manage inspections i.e. fire inspection, AHJ, utility, electrical inspections
  • Complete final punch list in efficient and effective manner to complete projects
  • Manage the transfer of completed projects to in-house Service Dept for monitoring and warranty management
  • Assist in the development of Residential projects by sales teams – consulting with design, engineering, procurement, subcontractors, and technical development teams as needed.   Manage the expectation and communications of client in the delivery of their solar and clean energy projects.
  • Strategic planning on a project level, and for the right individual on department/company level.

Qualifications:

  • Good leadership and people management skills
  • Strong time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work well in a fast-paced work environment both independently and as part of a team
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to provide and receive feedback, and be an effective listener
  • Consistently works in a professional and presentable manner appropriate with role and technical scope of work, both in the office and in the field
  • 5-7+ years of residential solar photovoltaic installation and/or project management experience (or equivalent role within PV industry)
  • 3+ Years as Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager in design/build construction
  • AA Degree or higher, Bachelor’s degree preferred in Construction Management, Engineering or related field; or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience  
  • PMI/PMP certification and NABCEP Certification desired
  • Must be reliable, and demonstrate highly-ethical behavior and good judgment at all times, including the ability to make decisions effecting >$100,000.
  • Must be able to maintain client and company confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally respond to stressful situations in a patient, friendly, and timely manner
  • Digital Proficiency: must be able to use Microsoft Office, including: Word, Excel, and Outlook, and other software programs used to maintain data and generate reports.
  • Valid California Driver’s License with clean record that allows driving company vehicles for work
  • Ability to organize, utilize and motivate team members to successfully meet the construction schedule, which will result in completing the job on time and on budget, required
  • Understanding of financial models and management of budgeting cash flow preferred
  • Negotiation experience preferred
