San Anselmo Church Saves Thousands with Solar Electricity

Novato and Sonoma based SolarCraft, a leading North Bay solar installer for over 35 years,  recently completed the installation of a 5.7 kW DC solar system at Sleepy Hollow Presbyterian Church in San Anselmo, CA.  Designed and built by SolarCraft, the North Bay Church’s system will reduce their carbon footprint and provide 100% of their electricity needs to power their facility.

The solar panels are roof mounted, south-facing for maximum solar production.  The new solar power system demonstrates the Church’s commitment to the environment and sustainability in the community.  “It’s very exciting to look up at the lights and think ‘these are powered by the sun!”, says Dennis Latta, Clerk of Session at Sleepy Hollow Presbyterian Church.  In addition to lowering their carbon footprint, it will reduce the Church’s electricity bill by thousands every year.

SolarCraft presented very favorable financing options, which allow non-profits to benefit from federal incentives.  With a lease or PPA, the provider is able to monetize federal incentives and passes the benefits through to non-profits via lower lease payments, or as in a PPA, lower contracted utility rates. Additionally, leases and PPAs are designed to minimize or eliminate initial up-front costs, making solar immediately affordable for non-profits that want to be green.

The Church’s solar electric panels will spare the air nearly 315,830 lbs. of harmful greenhouse gases annually.
Over 25 years the system is estimated to offset 201,332 kWh of electricity and the air pollution saved will be equivalent to eliminating over 500,000 miles of driving or planting 3 acres of trees.
