Novato solar & battery FAQs
Is SolarCraft really based in Novato?
Yes. SolarCraft has been headquartered in Novato since 1984 and is 100% employee-owned. The team that designs and installs your system is local, not a national crew passing through.
Do you install solar in Hamilton, Bel Marin Keys, and the rest of Novato?
Yes, we install throughout Novato, from Hamilton and Bel Marin Keys to San Marin, Ignacio, and Indian Valley. We design each system for the specific roof and how the home uses power.
Who handles the City of Novato permit and PG&E paperwork?
Do I need a battery with my solar?
For most new systems, yes. Under NEM 3.0, exported daytime solar earns far less than what you pay for grid power at night, so a battery lets you store your own energy for the evening, and it's designed to keep essential circuits running during an outage.
Will a battery keep my home powered in an outage?
A home battery is designed to keep your essential circuits, or more of the home, running during a power outage. How long it lasts depends on your battery size and which circuits you back up, both of which we size with you.
How does the Prepaid PPA work?
You pay one discounted upfront price, with no monthly solar payments, no escalators, and no buyout, and you own the system after six years. A commercial financing partner captures the tax incentives and passes the savings to you, up to 30%.
Will solar and battery add value to my home?
Owned solar generally adds resale value in California, typically without increasing your property tax assessment.
