West Marin solar & battery FAQ
Can you install ground-mount solar on a West Marin ranch?
Yes, it's often the best option. On ranches and larger parcels, a ground-mount array can be sized for the home, barn, and well pumps and placed where the land gets the best sun. We design for the whole property.
Can you design an off-grid or energy-independent system for a remote West Marin home?
Often, yes. For remote sites, we size enough solar and storage to lean less on the grid, and in some cases run independently. We'll assess your site and usage and recommend the right approach.
Do you use equipment built for the coast?
Yes. Near the ocean and the bay we use corrosion-protected racking and panels certified for coastal and marine environments, the same approach we used at Point Blue in Bolinas, built for high winds, fog, and salt mist.
Do I need a battery with my solar?
For most new systems, yes, and it matters more on remote lines. Under NEM 3.0 a battery lets you store your own energy for the evening, and it's designed to keep essential circuits running during an outage.
Will a battery keep my home powered in an outage?
A home battery is designed to keep your essential circuits (or more of the home) running during a power outage. Runtime depends on your battery size and which circuits you back up, both of which we size with you.
How does the Prepaid PPA work?
You pay one discounted upfront price, with no monthly solar payments, no escalators, and no buyout, and you own the system after six years. A commercial financing partner captures the tax incentives and passes the savings to you, up to 30%.
