What Solar Panels Cost, and How to Pay for Them

Prices and financing

Solar pricing depends on your home, energy use, roof, and equipment. You get one clear, itemized quote before you decide.

Buy it outright

Yours from day one

The lowest lifetime cost and fastest payback. You own the system and everything it produces from day one.

Finance it

Spread the cost

Spread the purchase over time while still ending with a solar system you own.

Prepaid PPA

20 to 30% less up front

Make one upfront payment, avoid recurring PPA energy payments, and receive ownership after the initial term.

Today's Solar Works Best with Storage

Use more of what you make

With California's current utility rate structure, pairing solar with battery storage allows you to store more of the energy you generate and use it when electricity is most expensive.

Prepay the Power, Skip the Monthly Payments

Lower up-front cost

One payment at a 20 to 30% discount. No monthly energy payments, and the system transfers to you at the end of the initial term.

Your Solar Questions, Answered

Before you decide

How much does a solar system cost?
Pricing is site specific. The size of your electricity bill and how much of it you want to offset, your roof shape and accessibility, and the equipment you choose all move the number. With a Prepaid PPA, homeowners can go solar for 20 to 30% less up front. You get a fixed, itemized quote before anything is signed.
How many solar panels do I need?
We size the system to your electricity use and your budget, designed to significantly reduce or eliminate your electric bill. Roof space and sun exposure both factor in. As a rule of thumb our systems use about 77 square feet of panels per kilowatt. How many panels you need →
How long does solar installation take?
The on-the-roof installation for a residential system averages 2 to 4 days depending on size and complexity. Permitting and the PG&E interconnection process can take several weeks or more, and we handle all of it for you.
What is your warranty on a solar system?
A 10-year warranty on parts and workmanship, including a 10-year guarantee against roof leaks at the attachment penetrations. The panels carry a 25-year warranty against defect and power output.
How do solar panels work?
Panels convert daylight into direct current. An inverter converts that into the alternating current your home runs on. Your house uses what it needs, and the surplus either charges a battery or goes to the grid. There are no moving parts, which is why they last so long. What to expect when you go solar →
How long do solar panels last?
Panels carry a 25-year warranty against defect and power output, and they typically keep producing well beyond it at a gradually reduced rate. Our workmanship warranty runs 10 years, including a guarantee against roof leaks at the attachment penetrations. More on panel lifespan →
Do solar panels increase my home's value?
A solar system can increase the value of your home without increasing your property taxes, which makes it one of the stronger home improvement investments available here. More on solar and property value →
Do I have a good site for solar?
Most North Bay homes do. What matters is unshaded roof area and orientation, and modern equipment handles partial shade and mixed rooflines far better than older systems did. We map your roof and model the shading during the site visit, and we will tell you plainly if it does not work.
What happens on a cloudy day or at night?
Panels still produce in overcast conditions, at reduced output. At night your home draws from the grid, or from your battery if you have one. Your system is sized across the year, not for a single day.
Can you install solar on a flat or Eichler roof?
Yes. Flat and low-slope roofs, including Eichler homes, are common here and we design specifically for them with low-profile tilt racking that sheds water properly.
