Tomales is ranch and dairy country with a small historic downtown, so the right system depends on the property.
Tomales Solar & Battery Installation
Solar and storage, built for ranch country.
SolarCraft designs solar and battery systems as one system, sized for ranches, homes, and the historic town, backed by 40 years of experience with solar systems at the Tomales Fire Station.
We powered the Tomales Fire Station
Right in town, SolarCraft designed and installed a 38.4 kW solar system on the rebuilt Tomales Fire Station, with 108 panels on the standing-seam roof, producing about 50,400 kWh a year and lowering the station's utility costs by almost $14,000 annually, as part of a LEED-status facility with EV charging.
It's the kind of local work a 100% employee-owned company that has served Marin since 1984 is trusted to deliver.

Tomales solar & battery FAQ
Can you install ground-mounted solar on a ranch or dairy in Tomales?
Yes, it's often the best option. On ranches and larger parcels, a ground-mount array can be sized for the home, barn, and well pumps and placed where the land gets the best sun. We design for the whole property.
Do you install solar near Dillon Beach and the coast?
Yes. Out toward Dillon Beach we use corrosion-protected racking and panels certified for coastal and marine environments, built to last in salt air and wind.
Will a battery help on a remote Tomales line?
Yes. Remote properties see more outages, and a battery stores your own solar and is designed to keep essential circuits running when the grid goes down. We can also design energy-independent systems for remote sites.
Do I need a battery with my solar?
For most new systems, yes. Under NEM 3.0, exported daytime solar earns far less than grid power at night, so a battery lets you store your own energy for the evening.
Will a battery keep my home powered in an outage?
A home battery is designed to keep your essential circuits (or more of the home) running during a power outage. Runtime depends on your battery size and which circuits you back up, both of which we size with you.
How does the Prepaid PPA work?
You pay one discounted upfront price, with no monthly solar payments, no escalators, and no buyout, and you own the system after six years. A commercial financing partner captures the tax incentives and passes the savings to you, up to 30%.
